Commissioners order shutdown and removal within 30 days

“Usefulness is not a blank check for surveillance that is too broad, too secretive and vulnerable to misuse.”

— Davidson County resident, public comment

Davidson County commissioners voted on Aug. 24 to shut off and remove the county’s Flock cameras within 30 days, ending the sheriff’s office contract. The county had used more than 20 cameras and reallocated $76,000 from the program toward a mobile command center for the sheriff’s office and other emergency services.

The report describes a scheduled shutdown and removal, not completed removal. This record is marked planned until a source confirms the cameras are off and removed.
