TXCouncil cites outside data searches and control concerns
“At this point I cannot recommend renewing [the contract].”
— Willie Richards, Police Chief
Pflugerville City Council voted unanimously on Aug. 25 not to renew the city’s Flock lease agreement. Before the vote, the city manager directed staff to cover city-leased cameras and turn off the license plate reader system pending council direction.
The action followed public-records review that raised questions about outside agencies’ searches of city camera data. The source reports that officials identified a Flock operating-system issue involving access by nonpartner agencies and that the police chief said he lacked clarity about protecting community data.
