Over 30 community groups in Austin pressured the city council to cancel its Flock Safety ALPR contract after an audit revealed that more than 20% of searches lacked proper documentation. Privacy and immigration enforcement concerns drove the campaign.

Austin PD subsequently found a loophole to continue accessing Flock data through other agencies, as reported by KUT Radio in February 2026.
