The Davie Police Department in Broward County, Florida, ended its contract with Flock Safety in August 2023 after growing concerns about the scope of license plate data collection and the lack of independent oversight mechanisms.
Community members raised questions at multiple town council meetings about how long plate data was retained, who had access, and whether the surveillance network was consistent with the town’s values. After an internal review, the department determined that the privacy risks outweighed the investigative benefits.
